Health and Safety Engineer – Outokumpu Avesta
Contribute to a safe, sustainable, and responsible industry
Outokumpu is a global leader in sustainable stainless steel, and safety is a cornerstone of our operations. We are now looking for a Health and Safety Engineer to join Outokumpu in Avesta, who wants to help develop and strengthen health and safety work in our industrial operations.
In this role, you will have a central position in daily and strategic health and safety work and act as Outokumpu's contact person in Avesta for health and safety matters. You will work closely with the operations and support managers and the organization in creating a safe and secure workplace.
You will report to the Manager Safety & Sustainability and be part of the EHSE function.
About the role
As a Health and Safety Engineer, you will have a broad and varied assignment where you combine operational support with long-term development of working methods, processes, and management systems within health and safety. The role involves many contact points, both internally and externally, and is suitable for you who thrive on taking responsibility, working systematically, and driving improvements.
Your main responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, lead, and follow up initiatives within the management system for health and safety.
- Establish, develop, and archive investigations and reports within health and safety.
- Ensure both short- and long-term planning within the health and safety area.
- Lead or participate in investigations of serious incidents and accidents.
- Participate in and follow up the systematic health and safety work in the operations.
- Be the contact person for internal and external stakeholders regarding health and safety, including authorities.
- Participate in internal and external forums within the health and safety area.
- Implement new laws, regulations, and other requirements within health and safety.
- Ensure that relevant parties in the organization are aware of and comply with applicable conditions and requirements.
- Establish and conduct training within health and safety.
- Collaborate with other health and safety engineers and fire and safety technicians to create redundancy in operational matters.
- Monitor developments in the field of health and safety.
Who are you?
We are looking for someone with a strong commitment to health, safety, and people – and who is also confident in taking leadership, setting direction, and making decisions.
You have an academic background in health and safety, engineering, health pedagogy, or equivalent, as well as experience in developing, implementing, and managing systematic health and safety work. You also have experience in safety work, organizational and social health and safety, and educational initiatives.
As a person, you are structured, meticulous, and analytical, and you can work independently while taking responsibility for driving things forward. You are proactive and solution-oriented and are confident in making decisions when needed. You communicate clearly and collaborate easily with colleagues at all levels. With your natural leadership qualities, you can engage and inspire others, and you thrive in an environment where change and flexibility are part of everyday life. Your professionalism and ability to combine quality with efficiency contribute to a safe, secure, and high-performing work environment.
You communicate fluently in both Swedish and English, in both spoken and written form.

In this role, we offer a salary between 38,000 – 49,000 SEK/month, based on factors such as education, experience, competence, and geographical location.
